Blender 4.0 Alpha Released |
With this new release, users will be able to enjoy faster rendering, better simulations, improved 3D modeling, and a variety of other features and updates that will make creating 3D content easier than ever.
Let’s take a look at some of the top new features in Blender 4.0 Alpha.
Blender 4.0 Alpha Python API
The Python API and Mesh department has seen some major updates in the new version. The Mesh format has been changed from previous versions and is now included in the Blender file format, reducing the size of saved files and their associated overhead.
Additionally, Bevel weights have been moved to a generic attribute and the sculpt vertex colors API has been replaced by mesh color attributes.
Blender 4.0 Alpha Shader nodes
Shader nodes have also been updated in Blender 4.0 Alpha, with the glossy BSDF and anisotropic BSDF nodes being merged into a single node called shader node BSDF anisotropic in the Python API.
For future compatibility, add-ons and scripts should replace the usage of shader node BSDF glossy with shader node BSDF anisotropic.
Blender 4.0 Alpha Modeling
On the modeling front, a new navigation option in the 3D view during transformation has been added to the keymap settings, making 3D navigation easier than ever.
The user interface also sees some improvements, such as :
- rotational inputs being displayed.
- maximum precision and the file browser.
- volume and system item tooltips no longer mention renaming.
Plus, the options panel accessed in object mode and mesh edit mode has been reorganized for improved usability.
